Incredible! Your figurative work is fantastic. I want to know what you were drawing in the army. Did you do art that was relative to the war? The movement in your drawings and perspectives is how I have felt since Sept. 11, 2001. Your work represents a wonderful perspective of emotion.
I was born in El Paso in 1972. My father was at UTEP doing his associates degree in architecture probably the same time you were there. I am an artist working interdisciplinary work with drawing and sculpture. Since Sept. 11, 2001, I have had rolling images of doing work to support fears hopes and perspectives I've never understood until now. What kind of work has inspired you lately? Do you do art that is political in content now? I have had a strong interest in the human population increase, that was a focus of my study for undergraduate work and I plan to continue with that later. Your piece on pollution and the uncomfortable appearance of the poses in the figures is interesting and I'd like to know more.

Mr. McIver, I chanced upon your website while doing a websearch on "the nude in art". I think you have struck a rich mine of imagery that opens up a whole new realm for the treatment of the nude in art. You are dipping into the same well of the use of the figure (mannerism, cubism, art deco, etc.) that I am in a less bold way. This business of constraining the figure into geometry (2D, 3D, and 4D) by bending it and compressing it beyond its natural range of motion is something that I too have essayed (I have employed contortionists as models). I love the way in which you have employed multiple viewpoints on the figure to explode the space open. My use of the nude in my painting is quite a bit more conservative, but it is no less interested in the same approach that you are taking. I do not think that the nude is a dead subject by any means and I think that you have infused a new life into it. If you are curious, my work is reviewed at . I would like very much to hear more about your thinking regarding a renewed approach to the nude in art.

Hi. I just finished getting an art critique by my prof and he suggested that I go and research contemporary figurative painters, so I found your web gallery. Your stuff echoes some ideas that have floated through my head. My skills are developing quite strongly in baroque oil painting. At the opposite extreme I have played with design and am curious about geometric shapes. Your work seems to combine representation with design and geometry; sort of Escher-esque. I am familiar with most of your art terms and am interested in understanding your philosophy in greater detail. I am looking to do art that could be considered religious, not modern, nor post-mod. I need to develop conceptually and your work is a good guidepost for me.

Randolph -
Beautiful work!
I have always had a VERY high regard for the classical figure as it appears in painting/drawing, and sculpture.
I also attended ACCD for a short while, and studied under Harry Carmean. I am curious if you had the good fortune to take classical figure drawing with him?
Although I'm interested in the fundamentals of anatomy, I've tended to move away from a more formal approach, in favor of much more expressive figure work. I found the demands of working in a more formal tradition seemed to block or limit my emotional connection to the figure...although I try not to loose sight of the importance of sound anatomy and structure.
I find your work very strong and dynamic. You are conveying strength AND emotion with your figures and compositions.
Thank you Randolph, for posting a link to your website and work through the Wetcanvas website.

i'm interested in your perspective of by-stepping romanticism. we all look forward through the eyes of history, why do you think? i ask because of your nod to greek sculpture, while foregoing the last century as a place to move forward from into the 21st century. an interesting, if not curious step. pax...
